The amount of adhesive you need for an underfloor heating installation depends on the size of the area, the type of tiles or flooring being laid, and the depth of the trowel used during application.
Correct adhesive coverage is essential to ensure full contact between the heating system and floor surface, allowing for even heat transfer and long-term stability.
As a general guide, a standard 20 kg bag of flexible tile adhesive covers approximately four to five square metres when applied with a six-millimetre notched trowel. Larger format tiles or deeper notches will require more adhesive. It’s important to always use a flexible, heat-resistant adhesive that is specifically designed for use with underfloor heating systems. This allows the floor to expand and contract safely as temperatures change, preventing cracks or lifting over time.
Before starting your project, calculate your total floor area and check the manufacturer’s coverage details to determine how many bags or tubs you’ll need.
