Electric Underfloor Heating for Vinyl

Is it possible to have underfloor heating under vinyl flooring? Yes! Vinyl underfloor heating is wholly achievable but it is important to bear a few things in mind.

Firstly, it’s important to remember that you will need to ensure your sub floor is suitable, and you’ll most likely need some overlay boards to protect the gap between the underfloor heating mat and your lovely vinyl, for an electric underfloor heating kit which works under vinyl. There are 4 different types of electric underfloor heating to use under vinyl for you to choose from:

Second, a concrete sub-floor may well be the best place to install your heating if you’re working with one of our in-screed electric cable kits like the one above. It all depends on the system you end up choosing (and contact the team if you are unsure!)

Finally, we would always recommend going to an established vinyl supplier. A vinyl flooring supplier like Burt’s, for example, can advise on compatibility. Also, ensuring you have a trades professional to help you means you are helping yourself get the best possible installation when the two are put together.

For all types of flooring, vinyl included, we agree that your underfloor heating should never go above 27 degrees celsius when you have it on and working, afer installation and your first ever warmup.

Also, we don’t supply 100w underfloor heating. Some underfloor heating stores still do and somehow, it’s a product that exists, but it’s largely pointless as all it does is remove chill and if you’re so inclined, helps evaporate a little water from the floor (handy if your vinyl is in the bathroom, ktichen, or conservatory). However, 100w heating kits can’t be used it as a central heat source, which is why we only stock 130w and above which ensure you get the most value from your heating investment. Be sure to get the right kit from a reputable supplier like The Underfloor Heating Company! We’re the underfloor heating store that’s leading the UK.
